The Read Through

First time

The read through is a really important part of the process. It is often the first time the directors have heard the script read aloud and often what works on paper may need changing to sound more realistic and to suit the individual actors.

It is also the first time that the cast and directors meet and get to know each other. It is best not to learn the lines at this stage as some may change.

Sometimes minor parts have not been cast yet so they are read by the directors. This is because smaller parts require less commitment and are often chosen for their availability.

The Script

Of course the script doesn't just appear. The script writers will have spent up to six months creating the characters and writing and planning it.

All films need to fit a budget and available locations. Careful thought is given when coming up with the initial ideas through to the finished script so that the film isn't too expensive. No money is made from the films every penny has to be accounted for.
