On Sunday 7th December, the Channel 7 team, filmed the Riverside Theatre Companies Dance Group for a promotional video for them.
We spent just over 3 hours filming with them, capturing their rehearsals and a small performace from one of the routines from a recently performed show. We also recorded interviews with some of the members.
We recorded around 50 minutes of footage, which has now got to be edited down, into something more watchable.
After another excellent writing session this week, we’re gradually fleshing out the story for our script. We now have the main characters, George and Sebastian (Imaginary Friend) and lots of individual scenes planned out. There are still a lot of unanswered questions in our story at the moment and research and time will help plug these gaps.
We now need a back story to glue all these scenes together to make an entertaining story.
More scripting is planned in the next week or so, but with Christmas rapidly approaching we need to get this story finished, before we start scripting in early January.
On Sunday 30th November 2014, Lindsay and Darren travelled to Pinner, for the North Thames Film Festival where we had entered our film 'Water's Edge'.
The day was spent watching the entries to the festival which were for the most part entertaining and enjoyable. It is always nice to see what people choose to make films about.
The day ended with the announcement of the winners. Channel 7 picked up two awards, one for 'Best Editing' and one for '3rd Place' overall and a cheque for £15, which we were extremely pleased with.
One judge commented, "This film showed a lot of imagination and superb black and white photography which suited the subject. A good choice of music and excellent dubbing of the song. I found it very poignant althogh a bit too long as i saw the outcome quite quickly. However and excellent film. Well Done."
Darren and Lindsay have been meeting regularly over the last few months following completion of ‘Water’s Edge to seek sponsorship, look for new projects and try and come up with new ideas for the next Channel 7 script. Coming up with the idea and story is probably the hardest part of the whole process of making a film, not only does it have to fit in with the club’s principles, it also has to work for both writers in order for the creativity to begin.
So far many ideas have been explored and rejected for various reasons but at last a germ of an idea has emerged that both Darren and Lindsay feel could work. This doesn’t mean the finished script will be anything like the starting point as there is a whole lot of imagination and creativity needed to draw the ideas to a believable and entertaining story.
Working title ‘Imaginary Friend’ was final conceived last night based around those imaginary companions children have and what happens to them? Are they real? Do they go away or are they still there as we grow older? When we talk to ourselves are we still communicating with the friend from our past? Watch this space for more news!!
